Rangitikei - An Overview Geography Rangitikei is a region located in the North Island of New Zealand. It covers an area of 2,636 km2 and is home to more than 16,000 residents. It is bordered by the Tasman Sea to the north and the impressively tall Ruahine Ranges to the south. The main rivers in the region include the Rangitikei, Whangaehu, and Mangawhero. Population Rangitikei is considered to be an area of small towns, yet the population is growing steadily. The largest town in the area is Marton, with a population of 8,275. Other towns include Bulls, Hunterville, Bulls, and Pohangina. Economy The main economic staples of Rangitikei are agriculture and forestry, with the major agricultural produce being beef, sheep, and dairy products. Forestry is also a major contributor to the economy, with large areas of native bushland providing a valuable source of timber for furniture, manufacture and construction.
